Final Hobbit pushed back to December 2014

When The Hobbit was split into three films, it was said that the final installment was going to hit in the middle of 2014, making the wait not seem as long. Now The Hobbit: There and Back Again has been pushed back to have a Winter release date of December 17th, 2014.

Australia is getting the second installment, The Desolation of Smaug on December 26th 2013, so it's likely to expect a boxing day release for There and Back Again as well.

I'm happy with this. I thought it was odd to go mid-2014, why go mid-year during peak season when you can get a guaranteed 300 million US if you go December?
So we wouldn't have to wait a whole extra year to see the end? :P

You said why did they choose a Summer release date originally.
