Avengers Assemble!

Marvel Studios is in final negotiations for Joss Whedon (Buffy, Firefly) to direct The Avengers.

I think this is great news, though I am a massive Whedon fan, so maybe I'm biased. I feel that Whedon always creates believable character dynamics making you really feel for the characters. This is going to be important in a multi-hero movie if they want to avoid going the way of Spiderman 3 with its over abundance of villains. For those of you who may not like Buffy, Angel, Firefly or any of his other work don't be concerned - Whedon has worked on comics for Marvel in the past, so he has some idea (hopefully) about how things should be done.

I'm not a whedon fan, I don't know why they can't just get John Favreau, he's the obvious choice.
Nothing against whedon though, whilst I believe they could do better, they sure could do a whole lot worse.

Favreau is doing Cowboys and Aliens.

I don't like Whedon as a director, yeah he can write the house down and he is super original, but as a director... he really isn't that special. But he could "J.J. Abrams" us and completely surprise by pulling out a sensational movie.

Yes but the direction wasn't what made it good. It was the writing and NPH. The Avengers needs a brilliant director.

Hrmm.
I still can't see how it will be done.
Have multiple superhero universes in one film just sounds confusing.
And WTF are they going to fight?
Didn't the Fantastic 4 fight a planet eating god or some ****, how can they top that?

Is it really that hard to top Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer?

Besides, I'm pretty sure there are quite a few villains in the Marvel universe. We still have to see what Captain America and Thor have to offer. Given the Norse mythology in Thor, they could be up against a Norse God in the Avengers movie.

Galactus was only an entity in Rise of the Silver Surfer. Even Venom from SM3 topped that no problem.

The question is how will they be able to top Doc Oc from SM2. Now he was a villain. But what I want to know is how long the movie will go for and how much screen time each of them will get. It'll be interesting to see how this all comes together

He's about as impressive as Spiderman, so you can't hold that against him lol. Oh how I loathe Spiderman (In general, not the movies specifically)

Good questions Mordillo, I'm just glad they all have single movies first so they don't need so much time to establish everyone. I pray to God it's a 3 hour blockbuster, more Iron Man the better as far as I'm concerned lol.

I love Joss but I'm not sure he's up to this. Writing absolutely (check out his X-Men run doubters it's awesome), directing not so much.

I hope that the Captain america movie is set in WWII and the Avengers is him being found/woken in present day and the Avengers being formed around him (much like the Ultimates run).
