Looks like Spidey 4 is having the same issues as #3 - www.firstshowing.net/

In short, the studio is throwing out all of Raimi's ideas in favour of their own. They did the exact same thing with Spidey 3 and look how well that turned out.

The production has been put on hiatus, the studio won't do what Raimi wants and Raimi won't do what the studio wants. If this doesn't get sorted soon than Raimi could drop it all together and move on with his new Evil Dead and World of Warcraft. The studio will left to pick up the pieces, get a new script, new director and perhaps even a new cast.

UPDATE: Sony has contacted us this morning and they are denying the story. The production is on their expected holiday hiatus, but will ramp up again early next year.

Yes, the filmmakers are working on the script, but there is nothing unusual about that at all, productions always are working and tweaking scripts right up until principal photography begins and that is still a few months away.

Good news I guess. I do remember reading that Sam Raimi had full creative control over the project.

I wish Raimi would just stop with the whole vulture obsession, the vulture is a lame choice for a villian, not that anything's confirmed yet, but we know he was pushing for it in SM3 and that's why he f***ed over venom.
I love the evil dead movies but I seriously think Raimi is no longer right for this franchise and the sooner they boot him the better. And that f***ing kirsten dunst as well, if MJ gets kidnapped by the villian AGAIN in sm4 then that's it for me.

I do agree. Raimi isn't right for the series any more, but when he was given complete control he made Spider-Man 2... my all-time favourite superhero film. If he is going to make Spider-man 4, I want him to do it on his terms.

SM2 is the only one I own and definitely the best of the series, I pretty much consider it a standalone movie, some of the things that consistently piss me off with any spiderman movie are still there though, peter acting like an stunned mullet emo-fag and MJ being a depressing sour-faced spaz that bitches about everything.

F*** that, come on disney, be the giant corporate powerhouse we all know you are and sue sony for the spiderman rights halting the production of this future nightmare on stilts, then reboot in the marvel universe.

Then we can have all sorts of crazy team-ups and no more dead eyes maguire crying constantly and whiney depressing dunst constantly being kidnapped whilst looking depressed.

After further research, or more so that I didn't read much the first time around, apparently it's partly because Maguire walked out as well as Raimi. Seems a little odd as it's the franchise that made him, and what else is he going to do?
