Looks freaking badass. This is the Halo short he directed - www.youtube.com/

His short films kick a ton of ass and I can't imagine that this will be any different.

The short that this film is based on - www.youtube.com/

Sci-fi is making a comeback big time this year and I couldn't be happier about it.
Shuweet! I read about this film a while ago. I'll watch the trailer later when I can actually hear what they are saying(haven't got my headphones in)
That bit where it goes, "They are not...HUMAN" gave me chills!

Something as predictible as that gave you...chills?
Looked lame. Seriously. From reports its a Cloverfield rip-off and it just looks plain old boring. I also hate that fact they are using Peter Jackson's name to get people to see a movie which should be going straight to dvd.

:o

We watched the same trailer right?

www.apple.com/

You know it's meant to be a mockumentary? It's set in South Africa?

Also, would love to see the reports that say it's a Cloverfield rip-off. And Blomkamp directed several Halo shorts with influence (not credited) from Jackson. I have no doubt that he has a presence in the film-making process of this.
that trailer was alright...but that short on youtube was kick ass...(the 2nd link u had to youtube) the first one...not so good..

wat were those big robot things tho...

and the aliens looked cool...its funny how every1's so cool about it..."yeah the aliens trying to come steal some food so i have to have a gun" lol...

and i can see where the cloverfield rip off claims come from, but this one feels more like a political statement and a societal study...cloverfield jus wanted to seem realistic
Yeh man we saw the same trailer and by rip-off I meant more a spoof. Just google District 9, go through the blogs, the internet chatter, it all points that District 9 is going to take the piss out of this Cloverfield sort of genre. It all seems rather pointless to me, because we all know that this genre isn't real and a bit of joke, but we watch em for the fun of it and we shouldn't have to see a movie released that tries to show us how pointless this genre is, becuase we already know.

But as Berethor, it could have a political statement to make and thats fine, I just hope its more smarts like Hot Fuzz.
It's not a comedy though...at all. It's not a spoof, and it's not trying to take the piss out of Cloverfield at all. Did you watch Cloverfield? And do you know what District 9 is about? I can't see any connection whatsoever. By your logic, any film in a particular genre is trying to make fun of/rip-off an earlier film in the same genre.

District 9 depicts a fictional world where extraterrestrials have become refugees in South Africa. Where in gods name do you make the connection with Cloverfield?

If you're making the connection via the viral marketing, then yes, it has similar marketing tactics used by Cloverfield. But I don't think it's taking the piss out of it. It's just using a similar viral marketing direction.

Cloverfield had no hidden political or social commentary at all. It was purely a monster movie that tried to reinvigorate the fear generated by Americans from the September 11 attacks. This looks to be a social experiment of the society and community side of things.
It's not somebody running around with a camera, filming everything. We have a mixture of documentary and dramatized scenes.

The plot of the film originated with Blomkamp's short film Alive in Joburg and tells the tale of alien refugees who land in Africa and are subsequently forced into slavery. Jackson told Entertainment Weekly:

They have technology and weapons that are extremely appealing to various forces -- and that's where it all goes wrong.

The comparisons between this and Cloverfield are through the teaser and viral marketing campaigns, not the actual premises of the film. They are so completely different it's not even funny.
It's funny, because you and I have only seen the trailer and we came to extremely different opinions. Perhaps we should wait to the movie actually comes out before we burn any homes down and start rioting
its funny how the aliens ride around on the top of the trains to get the electricity tho..omg...lol...jus the thort of that is funny...and ther so cool about it lol..."wats that?" - "ah jus an alien trying to get some electricity"

lol
Looks interesting...

Would hate to see this have that amatuer kind of feel to it like the short does, okay parts are well done, but it just wouldn't sit well in a feature film. Okay, I guess Cloverfield had that same feel, maybe this is where the comparison is being drawn?

I like the setting, the idea is good, the guy is obviously obsessed with his CGI and special fx, hopefully it has an engrossing storyline to suit the strange plot.

You're right lol. How odd is that? Yet, they just live side by side with these unknown creatures.
Do you guys know that Neill Blomkamp is the same guy who did the epicly remembered Citroen Transformer car ads!?

Yep, awesome ad!
directing a 30sec ad is a lot different to directing a 90min movie...and you cant tell the skill of the director from that ad. as awesome as it is.

Man speaks that truth!

I don't know about Tano but I watched the trailer not knowinng what it was about and that line did give me chills. I find it so eery how the spaceship is just hovering over the town and I find this kind of viral marketing works really well for this kind of movie, makes you think how strange it would be if suddenly aliens did start appearing around the earth.

That said, it would be good to see a proper trailer for the movie to get an idea for the approach it is going to take.
Not sure if this will work, but here is the uncensored District 9 trailer...
