I want to see this, but with everything out this week and next I don't think I'll get to it in cinemas.

We'll see though, might make a superb effort to catch it next week.

I doubt it. If it is minimalist, I'll hate it because why bother; if it is things coming out of the screen, I'll hate it because it is a gimmick.

I hate all types of 3D. My opinion cannot be changed.

I absolutely adored this film. It was perfect, absolutely perfect. Everybody has to see it.

And as I thought, it didn't need the 3D. For a film about classic cinema and how important film is, you'd think Scorsese would have made it without such a terrible gimmick. But I loved the film despite the distraction and I look forward to buying the 2D bluray.

That's what made it so ironically great though! And it's clear he had though about that. It was such an obvious decision on his behalf, and not a studio one. He could have made it in 2D if he wanted.

I think a lot of thought was put into making it 3D or not, and I have to agree with all the reviews, this 3D really does work. Some of them opening shots (where you really notice it) worked so well into drawing me into this world. Only downside I can see to 32D is, eventually you stop noticing it.

I've seen a Spielberg interview where he says, his kids don't want to watch black and white movies till 10 mins into said movie and their completely drawn in.

Saw this yesterday, thought it was kinda average, after reading all the reviews on imdb was honestly expecting more...
Visually it was amazing, but the story felt like it had no structure. It was like... this movie's about an orphaned boy... lolnotreally, it's about a broken automaton... lolnotreally, it's about classic film. I do realise they wanted each event to build onto the next, and that this movie is mainly intended for kids. But honestly, the Borat guy had more of a role than the automaton [Shifty]...

Really though... I thought it had all the right elements for a decent kids movie, but was far too unbelievable for an older (and pickier) audience. If they wanted appreciation for George Melies' film work, then why is this only mentioned in the last hour? By that time I had the impression Melies (at least the actor) was just a grumpy old fart, and couldn't really care less for what he did.

I just cannot see how Hugo, with his robot, getting chased up a clocktower by Borat... has anything to do with early cinema.

Before everyone who loved it gets totally butt hurt I totally understand what "They" were going for but it just didn't hit the mark with me at all.

I still don't have the appropriate description for this movie. I can see why people loved it but it wasn't the movie I'm looking for at the moment. Maybe the reason it bored me is because most of the sequences just gave me flashbacks of a lecture in filmschool.

Nevertheless, it was a visual spectaculare and one of the best 3D and cinematography I've ever seen.
