George Lucas officially announces Star Wars on Blu-ray in 2011

all six Star Wars movies will be released together on Blu-ray in 2011 for the 35th anniversary of the release of A New Hope. George Lucas personally announced the set on stage at the Celebration V event, and showed off a deleted scene from Return of the Jedi that will be included (embedded after the break.) While the "highest picture and audio quality" and extensive special features are promised, what won't make it to Blu-ray are the original versions of the movies; Lucas told the New York Times that only the special editions will be included, since restoring the original versions in high enough quality would cost too much.

I'm sure many have been and still waiting for this, at least it's been officially announced. [Am also awaiting Extended Edition versions of 'The Lord of the Rings' Trilogy on Bluray next year.]

Anyway, I'm not sure if I'll want them. I have the new editions on DVD anyway. I just want a god damn theatrical version on Blu-Ray. I'm not interested in Lucas' money whoring efforts from the past decade or so.

Coincidentally. I posted two things about him earlier today! One, a trailer with him as the lead in Vanishing on 7th Street (from the director of The Machinist). And he made comments yesterday about a possible Jumper sequel - however this was in an interview for Takes, his new film, which probs needs the publicity.

I was actually talking about Lord of the Rings Extended Versions on bluray, I can see trhat star wars was. I'm not stupid that I am going to ask a question that is quite obvious in the first post

And to top it off, they're going to re-release all the Star Wars movies in 3D... One a year apparently, and starting from this year if memory serves me right.

So that'll take six years, then we'll wait another 1-2 years and they'll be released on the medium of the time...

Then if he's still alive, George Lucas will turn the seventh book into a movie (you know, the one about the return of the Force that he "never" plans to make into a movie?), the movies will all be re-released one at a time, before eventually being released on home media...

Sure has made some money off this franchise, hasn't he?

just rumors. i was reading a Mad Magazine where they said that everyday he makes rumours under some screen name. there have always been rumours since ROTS came out. hopefully no more, leave it like it is.

He reckons he won't make the last book into a movie, but as if he's not.

You think about it, he's going to release one movie a year for the next six years, then a year later, they'll all come out on the media of the time (Blu-Ray Disk?)...

If he was to make the seventh movie, he would have an excuse to repeat the whole thing all over again, except this time over eight years ('cause the movies are usually released about a year after the cinema screenings)!

Honestly, anyone that believe he won't make the seventh movie eventually is kidding themselves...
